With a title like The Incredible Space Raiders (from Space), you’d probably expect a clichéd mess of a novel that tries to bring Star Trek to a pre-teen audience. But when was the last time anyone got what they expected out of a book? Space Raiders centers around a kid named Jonah who gets shanghaied into joining a team of kids journeying to fight eldritch abominations in the far reaches of space called Incredibly Evil Things. While dodging the evil crew members and the monstrous Shrieker, Jo [...]

Jonah Hillcrest is doing homework in his living room and then he wakes up aboard the Fantastic Flying Squirrel, where he is unceremoniously informed by a girl named Willona that he has been forcibly recruited as a Space Raider and is on his way to fight Entirely Evil Things, which prey on people's fears and emotions, so only children can fight, since they have fewer. Not only is there a threat to the galaxy, but the crew of the Squirrel is hostile toward the children, and there is a monster, the [...]

In this novel of the future, space is populated with colonies on several planets, although Jonah still lives on Earth. When Jonah is kidnapped and taken aboard a spaceship, he wonders why the dusty, dirty, breaking down ship is called the "Fantastic Flying Squirrel" since it's obviously in decline. If he and his teammates are charged with traveling to the Dark Zone to save humanity from evil, then why are they treated so poorly and why are there so many secrets? Something isn't right. For Jonah, [...]

Eh, it was ok. It was really hard to get in to at first, but then in the middle it got awesome. About a boy who wakes up on a weird space ship and sets off on a mission to rescue others. He meets this other girl who is living on the ship in "the unknown zone". He comes back and surprises the others back in the space raider part of the ship. They go and take over the ship, only to learn the truth about the space raiders. That wasn't a very informational review, but whatever.

3 and a half starsSo the summary is kinda off based and isn't really what happened. They ran around a lot had some fights nothing bigI did like it a bit and think kids will enjoy the space theme :D

A great book. Definitely seems way to cliche at the start but rest assured it does change. A very interesting plot but come on I wish there was more sci-fi stuff

Action, adventure, fantasy, Entirely Evil things; The Incredible Space Raiders from Space has it all. Jonah Hillcrest is an endearing protagonist who invokes sympathy and the desire to root for him as the unassuming hero. King's characters are relatable and realistic, kids who you would see in any middle school classroom, with real backgrounds that are complex and plausible. Set in the future aboard a space ship christened the Fantastic Flying Squirrel, King immediately invites us into the world [...]

I could hardly wait to read this new middle-grade story by Wesley King, and was NOT disappointed!Sentence by descriptive sentence the reader is drawn along with the kidnapped hero further into the mysterious depths of a wacky, weird space adventure! Excessive rules, EET's [you will have to read to discover what this means]and bonkers are just some of the quirky things that are encountered by both reader and protagonist. A fast gripping pace definitely keeps the reader glued to the edge of their [...]

Maybe I'm overly sensitive, but I felt that the author's portrayal of orphans and foster children as second class citizens and "disposable" was pretty offensive. I'm aware that there are places in the world where tragedies like those depicted in the book are common place, and that global awareness and intervention are the only way to combat it. I don't think the positive spin of "adventure" and "independence" of going to war are the right messages to send to children. The children in the book ar [...]

This futuristic novel is filled with lots of corny kids and phrases, and adventure. Jonah is mistakenly brought on board a spaceship of orphans training for a mission to fight the Entirely Evil Things. Outcast and accused of being a spy he sets out to prove himself by volunteering to find crewmembers that have mysteriously disappeared. A totally fun and out-of-this–world read, this book will appeal to ages eight to 12.

Wesley King just keeps on getting better! This book is fun! The characters are real. The story is original. The humor is laugh-out-loud. The wrap up is full of surprises -- and depth. Loved it!

A kidnapped fighting force of kids, armed with bonkers, are on a spaceship called the Fantastic Flying Squirrel and bound to battle Entirely Evil Things in the Dark Zone? No wonder this book is called incredible!

A high rolling space adventure like no other!Had me totally captivated from the start and had to share it with my students who thought that the author had to be a real cool dude to write this! They couldn't wait to finish it and all want to know if there will be a second book!?
