Another fun, soapy trifle of a novel. I wish these books had just a bit more ambition. Mostly it's extravagant descriptions of extravagant wealth with a glimmer of plot loosely holding everything together. The absurdity of Crazy Rich Asians is dialed way up for this second book in the series. It's just beyond. But again, lots and lots of fun.

Reading this, I can't help feel anything but disappointed. In Crazy Rich Asians, there was equal parts drama, gossip and brand name-droppings, but China Rich Girlfriend is just absolutely tabloid material. Some SPOILERS of courseFor starters, Kevin Kwan turns his two main characters, Rachel and Nick, into two-dimensional beings who just exist in the book to give us a better-than-gossip-column eyes into the lives of China's Fu Er Dai (children of billionaires), and Guan Er Dai (children of politi [...]

China Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan is a 2015 Doubleday publication.Another outstanding installment in this wildly entertaining series! As the story opens, a couple of years have passed since our initial introduction to these “Crazy Rich Asians”. Nick and Rachel are on the cusp of getting married, but Eleanor is still meddling and Rachel is still hoping to locate her long, lost father. Astrid’s husband's company has seen unprecedented success, putting him on equal footing with his wife, bu [...]

I received this from the First Reads program. Thanks to and Knopf Doubleday for an advance reader copy of this book.Don't judge me, but I got a kick out of "Crazy Rich Asians" by Kevin Kwan and this is more of the same. Campy, over the top, name dropping silliness, I know, but good fun. This would be a great beach read or escapist fare between weightier tomes. If you didn't read "Crazy Rich Asians," you don't necessarily need to read that first to enjoy this, although it does give the back-stor [...]

The review below is a general review of both of the first two books. Shouldn't really be any spoilers, but just so you know. Review originally appeared on my blog, Shoulda Coulda Woulda Books.Time on to-read: A year or more for the first book, second wasn't on it until I read the first.Reason for not picking up: Straight up perversity. The hype annoyed me. It seemed like a standard-issue chick-lit that happened to be set in Asia. And while I like many novels typically dismissed as "chick lit", u [...]

Very rarely do I read a sequel that I enjoy more than I enjoyed the first installment, but for me this was one of those. It takes the characters of Crazy Rich Asians and puts them in situations that were even more enjoyable than before. It's got everything a good book needs - love, hate, poison, and MEGA RICH DRAMA. What did I think? While I found some of Crazy Rich Asians to be slow and less interesting than others, China Rich Girlfriend was full of cliffhangers and moments that had me truly fe [...]

China Rich Girlfriend takes the main characters from Crazy Rich Asians to China. The story is 'fun and game' and escapism with a lot description on good foods and expansive clothes. You don't have to expect much insight or criticism on China, its social issues (the food pollution, air pollution, the widening income gap, the lack of reliable public hospitals, the struggling workers and farmers, just to name a few) and its systematical inequality. The main characters, they aren't so bad actually b [...]

Its been two years since Rachel and Nick went to Singapore on that disastrous trip to meet his family. While some members of his family embraced Rachel, others were less than cordial towards her. This, however, does not deter Nick from wanting to marry her. On the eve of their wedding in California, its none other than Eleanor (Nick's mother) that makes a grand apperance. Surprisingly she is not there to stop the wedding but to deliver great news to Rachel: she located her birth father. Its now [...]

China Rich Girlfriend is a blast. *Backing up a step, I started with CRG. I hadn't read Crazy Rich Asians and CRG stood on its own, e.g I wasn't lacking any necessary background material and also didn't suffer through 20 pages of material designed to catch-up a new reader. So . . . don't feel as though you can't pick up this novel because it's the second in a series. I enjoyed the structure of having a variety of plotlines and characters. I liked some more than others. Rachel and Astrid are deli [...]

Less enjoyable than the first, with not much of a plot, characters that serve as clothes hangers and pretty much the whole book being a tour of Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous in Modern China. There's a (desperate) attempt to inject some mystery at the end but it's hardly enough to save a plodding read. Only saving grace was a note written by an image consultant to a Chinese-born woman trying to hobnob with Hong Kong's elite.

i am utterly disappointed. how come the sequel of this book becomes so bad?? the first book is hilarious with all that sarcastic jokes about rich asian. the second book seems to forced. yes there is still that sarcastic jokes about how rich asian lives. but i found it a bit offending. the character of rachel is just unbelievable annoying. she is this perfect girl that everyone loves. i hate her. can not stand her anymore. what a pity.

So much fun to read! I didn't like it quite as much as Crazy Rich Asians, but it's still a fantastic ride. It also made me want to go shopping and eat Chinese food. On sale in June.

I'd rate this 3.5 stars.Full disclosure: I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review.Kevin Kwan's first book, Crazy Rich Asians, was a fun, campy look at the outrageous lives and foibles of people in Singapore who are richer than you probably can even imagine. There was drama, intrigue, gossip, scheming, and a whole lot of shopping and eating. Kwan has brought most of his characters back in China Rich Girlfriend, giving you even more glimpses into th [...]

Kevin Kwan is back with his instalment of what has easily become a perennial favourite book of mine. Crazy Rich Asians gave us a peek at how the outrageously rich Asians live. He skewered and ridiculed, enlightened and entertained us with their antics. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t know there was to be an instalment until I started seeing lucky bloggers received ARCs of this book. I was lucky enough to receive a finished copy from the publisher because this was a book that I genuinely covet [...]

The sparkle and gleeful playfulness of the first book has congealed into an overlong, over plotted and orgiastic mess of consumer idiocy in this second installment in the saga of Rachel Chu and Nick Young, Astrid Leong and others.Kwan should have stuck to the central Singaporean setting and his central characters rather than introducing a whole raft of new figures (too puppet-like to call characters) and multiplying his storylines. The saddest thing is that in nearly 400 pages he still doesn't r [...]

    - - - -I don't think it's a secret that I ADORED (x infinity) Crazy Rich Asians when I first read it. There are not enough words to capture the way I gushed about that book — I thoroughly apologise to everyone that had the book shoved into their hands. I demanded that you had to read it, but you can't say it wasn't worth your time. Everyone that I've recommended the book to has loved it just as much as I have, and I'm so glad because books like these are a good form of escape when you want to [...]

When publishing a book as deliciously fun as China Rich Girlfriend, there's always a bit of guilt involved: is the book anything more than a (spectacularly addicting) mindless pleasure? Kevin Kwan is as careful as he is funny, perceptive, and naughty, as he never lets his fabulously wealthy characters feel judged for their wealth alone. Instead, he casts doubt upon the wealth itself, updating the tale of Midas with luxury brands and high fashion. No one who falls for the spell is safe from corru [...]

This series is SO MUCH FUN!Speaking as a white woman of average financial origins, it takes brilliant writing and real love for the craft to write about these super rich people who are so alien to 99% of the planet - and make it so much more than an excursion into "Ooh- different!". At no point are the characters flat; while they're larger than life they remain at all times completely human. These books always leave me feeling good and they make for a fantastic, light, and bubbly mood-lifter.

Kevin Kwan, bestselling author of Crazy Rich Asians, is back with a wickedly funny new novel of social climbing, secret e-mails, art-world scandal, lovesick billionaires, and the outrageous story of what happens when Rachel Chu, engaged to marry Asia’s most eligible bachelor, discovers her birthfather.I seriously can't wait for these books to be made into movies, and I can't wait for part 3 to come out. I really enjoy these books, they are fun and eye opening. The sequel wasn't as good as the [...]

Crazy Rich Asians is a hit and miss read for most readers. There is a precise element in the storytelling that would either irk you or hooked you up. For me; however, this book triumphantly won me over. The sequel, China Rich Girlfriend, isn’t an exception. Once again, I fell in love with the glamour, and its preposterous humor. China Rich Girlfriend picks up two years after the events of Crazy Rich Asians. Nick succeeded in winning Rachel back. Good news! They’re finally getting married -- [...]

So you know how we all have stacks and stacks of TBR piles, but then a book comes out that automatically makes it to the top? That was this book. I fell in love with these characters and needed to know if Astrid & Michael had their happily ever after, if Rachel would find her dad and/or marry Nick, if Nick's mother would ever come around to giving Nick her blessing. You find all that out and more! This book tops the first with descriptions of opulence that you think must be made up but are pr [...]

ohh this one did not disappoint! The sequel to "Crazy Rich Asians," "China Rich Girlfriend" continues the story of the beloved (and not so beloved) characters of book 1 while adding some new characters to the mix. The opulence and hilarious Asian rituals and parts make this book such a thrilling read and give us an insider's view of the uber wealthy. Highly entertaining and well written, I'm loving these books!

While China Rich Girlfriend is technically the sequel to Crazy Rich Asians, you can read this as a standalone, which is what I did. Kevin Kwon throws you head first into the extravagant and rich life of these rich asians, and I can't lie and say that it didn't give me a headache. I was so shocked and mesmerised at the same time at the reality of their lives. One line that really got to me was said among a couple of the older asian women about someone within their community: "Bernard has no money [...]

China Rich Girlfriend is as ostentatious and hilariously ridiculous as Crazy Rich Asians. The opulent China setting, the outlandish characters and the soap opera drama between the American Born Rachel, the reawakening of the new Kitty Pong and the Chinese fashionista Collette was hilarious and entertaining. The food descriptions made my mouth water and the constant name dropping of labels and luxury cars and brands made me Google everything to better picture this crazy, cashed up world. The name [...]

I think I loved this even more than "Crazy Rich Asians"! Kevin Kwan brings us back to the lives of Rachel Chu, Nicholas Young, Astrid Leong, Michael Teo, Charlie Wu, Kitty Pong, and many more. We're also introduced to Carlton Bao and his parents, Colette Bing and hers, and a slew of other China rich twentysomethings. The characters are so rich (in a literary way) that I felt like I peering in on real people and their crazy rich crises. My favorite storyline was that of Astrid, Michael, Charlie, [...]

I REALLY need a network to make this into a TV show. I would seriously watch it. These folks are hilariously over the top and I love it!
