I gave “Alibi in High Heels” three stars for one reason: Jack Ramirez. I can't stand that character and his relationship with the main character, Maddie. For four books now, my dislike for his character has grown to the point where he is the only reason why I didn't give the book five stars. I LOATHE him. He is such a jerk to Maddie he has treated her like an incompetent child from the first book and not only has he not changed, he’s gotten worse as the series goes along. And Maddie is STI [...]

As usual, these books are great if you are looking for a light hearted, funny and silly read. I enjoyed it, but the further along I get in the series the less I like Ramirez. I adored him in the first and second books, but in these last two novels he is unbearable! I hate how he treats Maddie. I think it should be noted that I am a fan of alpha males if they are done right, but Ramirez makes me want to throw a boot at him. He treats her like a kid that doesn't know any better and he's always ups [...]

Well, this book makes it official. I am on "Team Felix". I'm actually imagining future books with Maddie and Felix as a crime-solving couple! Trouble is, I don't think this is what the author intended. The good--this is Halliday's best mystery plot yet. I didn't guess the murderer at all. That's a first for me and this series. She writes the comedy well, although at times she sacrifices realism for a funny bit. She's developed her supporting characters (Mom, Mrs. R, Dana, Marco, etc) very well. I [...]

In this installment, Maddie is contracted to provide her original shoe designs for Jean Luc's show at Paris Fashion Week. Her career has been on the move up for a while and this showing would help put her on the radar of fashion insiders outside LA. Unfortunately, one of the models for the show ends up dead in a similar way to how Maddie killed the killer from book one. Needless to say, suspicion falls to Maddie and she goes about trying to clear her name/find the killer. Tabloid reporter Felix [...]

omg, this series is getting real old. THey are quick reads and I can easily fall asleep after a chapter (I read when my baby wakes me up for a night feeding and hope that I can easily fall asleep). There's not too heavy of content, so I don't toss and turn when I close the book and try to sleep. It also is not a pageturner, so I can easily read one chapter and go to sleepe main characterg, she makes me gag a lot! She is one of those girls that we disliked in high school because she always needed [...]

Another great book from Ms. Halliday. I would normally never rate a chick-lit wibook 5 stars, but I did because as far as chick-lit books go this was a favorite. I am finding that I adore any book in which American girls travel abroad. I'm not sure if it's because I want to do it myself so badly or if it's just the escapism to a foreign place, but I just devour these books. Between Anna and the French Kiss and this I was in Paris heaven lately. Maddy is up to her usual antics so lovers of the se [...]

This might have been my favorite book in this series (so far!), though I must say that I was slightly disappointed with the ending. Oh well. It still had me in shock and I totally didn't see it coming. And even though I didn't actually WANT to see it coming, I still have to give mad props to the author for making me gasp in surprise and scream, "No!" while in a public place (namely, the gym, that place where Maddie wouldn't be caught, um dead), causing lots of heads to turn in my direction. Grea [...]

i just love these stories. can't wait to read mayhem in high heals. the books remind of of stephanie plum characters.

I've now read the first four books, one after the other, and two questions pop into my mind: why is Maddie such an idiot, and why does Ramirez still bother with her? Through the books her character has repeatedly gotten into dangerous, lethal situations expecting someone else to come bail her out of jail, to stop shooters from killing her and to save her from stalkers/dark back rooms/other sticky situations. She takes no responsibility for her own actions, that in themselves would be more expect [...]

I thought this was as good as any of this series so far. Just like the Stephanie Plum novels, these never fail to bring a few chuckles. It wasn't highbrow literature, but sometimes that's ok. A little escapism is great between more serious books. This had all the highjinks you would expect, as well as Maddie going to jail, this time in Paris! After finally getting some designing work besides kid's shoes, thanks to her notoriety, Maddie has a gig at fashion week in Paris. Of course Ramirez is not [...]

Still a funny storyline Maddie is still shoe obsessed but she's actually pretty successful now and it's good to see her life going where she wants which includes a trip to Paris Fashion Week and I have say as bad as it sounds it was pretty funny having her in cast unable to wear high heels her getting wrapped up in a murder again at least still made sense because the murderer was trying to frame Maddie by how she had killed that woman in self defense in the first book though honestly her relatio [...]

This is the 4th in the series and we find Maddie in Paris for Fashion Week and of course there are dead bodies that she keeps finding. It is a good series although sometimes I want to bop Maddie on the head for the bonehead things she does and the trouble she gets in to by not listening to anyone.

I love the humour of this series but I am so disappointed that over 5 books, the main character hasn't evolved at all as a person who's maybe learned from some of the things she did in the previous books and her way of treating the boyfriend. I also found it unrealistic that she could get away with no consequences for her actions.

Definitely my least favourite in the series so far, but it was still a really easy read.

Probably 3.5 but bumped up because I love this series. It got a little dull in the middle but that may just have been my mood. As ever though it was funny and easy to read.

Bk 4 alibi in high heels I was so thrill to read the continued of Maddie Springer and Jack Ramirez the shoe designer and the detective along with her mother and her mother's friend and her best friend Dana with seems to be some kind of feelings with tabloid boy and Maddie but her heart is with Ramirez the story plot of course ends up with everyone in Paris and murder mystery on fashion week featuring Maddie shoe on models couldn't put the book down so many plots and quiet kept you entertained on [...]

Ok, I have to say that the Ramirez-Maddie relationship is less and less convincing and because of that I've been wondering wether or not to actually read the whole series since book #3. I thought that the relationship might evolve into something different (more along the lines of realizing that Ramirez is indeed so not boyfriend (or anything else) material & a total macho man (Maddie is not perfect either !), that they barely know each other and hardly spend time together and that there's no [...]

Just a note -- there is a spoiler in this review.Finished this last evening (12/29). If you've followed my reviews of this series, you'll notice I've downgraded my rating on this one. It's not because it isn't well plotted; it's not because it isn't filled with lots of action, crazy people doing crazy things, mayhem and murder -- it has all those things. It's just getting too predictable: Maddie gets into trouble -- often of her own making; Maddie involves her best friend, Dana, her Mom and Mrs. [...]

This is the fourth book in the High Heel series. You will want to read the first three books Spying in High Heels, Killer in High Heels and Undercover in High Heels, before you pick this book up as with each book there is the development of the main characters, the relationships and the "world" that they live in, which is one of high fashion and murder. In the fourth book Maddie's dream of going to Paris is coming true, but Maddie is a fool if she does not think that murder will also follow her [...]

Honestly, I enjoy these books as something to pass the time, but they're not the best books I've read, even by a long shot. The fourth book in this series finds Maddie stuck in Paris, on crutches (meaning, she's in flats - the horror!), helping a popular young designer with the shoes for his show during Paris' Fashion Week. However, one morning before the show, she and the designer, Jean-Luc, find the star model of the show, murdered. She wasn't just murdered though - she was killed with a stile [...]

Just as entertaining as the others in the series but there was a few negatives. There were some minor plot problems - for example, Maddie is supposed to be driving a manual car despite the fact that she has a broken leg and is wearing, as she calls it, "the Wonder Boot". Last time I checked, driving a manual means using both feet and even if it would be possible to do so with one foot in a "Wonder Boot", you'd think it would be mentioned as a difficult task - but unless I missed something, it wa [...]

Maddie Springer is obsessed with shoes and fashion and everything girly, but the only problem is that trouble is as equally fond of her and seemingly followed her wherever she goes. Maddie thinks she has died and gone to heaven now that her shoes will be featured in Paris’s Fashion Week until a body is found with her shoe used as a murder weapon. She becomes the prime suspect, and while her hunky boyfriend, Jack Ramirez LAPD homicide detective, begs her to not do anything harebrained over stup [...]

I'm still not entirely positive how I let myself get suckered into this mysteries series --- given that I'm not a fan of the genre. So, keep that in mind as I do these reviews. I am NOT an expert on the mystery genre, nor is it my preference. However, I bought the first five books for my Kindle all at once, so I'm at least going to finish this endeavor. And, honestly, it's really not as painful as I first expected. So, our airheaded fashionista-turned-detective is back, except this time the setti [...]

This is the fourth book in Gemma Halliday's series featuring shoe designer Maddie Springer. In this mystery, Maddie receives a call from a top designer inviting her to show her line of shoes in the Paris Fashion Week Show. She is overwhelmed with joy at the possibilities that all of the exposure will do for her career. Everything is turning out great until one of the models is found murdered with a stiletto heel poking out of her jugular. Maddie is shocked by the familiar murder scene and knows [...]

Maddie Springer is in a whole heap of international trouble in this hilarious 4th installment by Gemma Halliday. As we open the book, Maddie gets hits by a car, breaking her leg! To make matters worse, shes off to Paris to show her shoe line at Fashion Week! Strutting around Europe in a cast and crutches is not and easy task when your trying to solve a murder of a model who was stabbed in the neck with a stilletto heel. (designed by the one and only Maddie) Now deemed the "Couture Killer" Maddie [...]

More fun, confusion, and outright stupidity. The mystery aspect is well done and has a lot of twists. The reality aspect is wanting, but this is FICTION! The sleuthing holds the reader's interest, and the romance angle is positively twisted. Mrs. R. and Maddie's mother make me nuts, and not in a good way. But altogether, I think it was great!
