(Find this review and others like it at Ravenous Readsravenousreads/)This book had potential. The premise was good. A douchebag named Jason stole a boatload of money and screwed over his only friend Gary in the process. He took off and ran into a beautiful young womand then the real story began. At that point I was already getting aggravated with the misspelled and misused words. I found it to be distracting and that's a shame, because the seeds of a cracking tale were there.Towards the end Jason' [...]

Actual Rating: 4.5 stars Just a quick review. Ugly Beautifulwas a short read filled with enough twists and gore to keep readers intrigued. It could still be improved on the matter of pacing, because the first parts of the story were a bit sluggish. What I liked best about this book is that the author created an unpredictable and flawed male protagonist. Both main characters, Jason and Haley, were actually more of the antihero type. I loved how messed up they were.On the writing, I think what could [...]

Ugly Beautiful is an very eerie, fast paced book, right from the very first page. The story starts off centered around a Glasgow gang, I'm not usually a fan of anything gangster, but these menacing gangsters are a great way to start this book off. Suddenly something quite unbelievable happens in the story, my jaw literately dropped, I thought, "Whaaaaa???" And things get quite terrifying from thereonLeaving the city behind, the story moves off to the Scottish highlands, the main character goes t [...]

A great book can stop the world and suck you into the moment. It can grab you by the balls and squeeze without mercy or wrap you up in warm tender memories. In the beginning I expected to hate the main character. After all he's a crook and murderer, but somewhere within the pages I began to feel sorry for him. I'm not saying he's a good guy, because well he's not. He makes a choice in the heat of anger that haunts him; even as he runs away from it and his past.Haley is a beautiful woman that Jaso [...]

This book was a wild ride from the very beginning. Jason, a thug who is running away from some of his recent crimes, finds a young woman. This woman, who he calls Haley, has lost her memory. Soon he realizes just what this means. This book was so crazy that it was really interesting. I studied Psychology in college and so it was definitely an interesting psychological horror. It was written very well. It even followed the lingo of the Scottish Highlands. I hate reading books that just say "oh he [...]

Jason is a criminal who double crosses his boss and goes on the run. On the way he comes across a woman, Haley who he finds unconscious near the farmhouse where he is hiding out. Jason and Haley form a relationship but things aren't quite right with Haley. This was a pretty macabre novella. There were enough chilling clues regarding Haley's affliction before they left the farmhouse, but instead Jason is "in love" and sets off with her. Another reviewer has already alluded to what in fact Haley's [...]

This story is very true to its title - both major characters have ugly and beautiful sides to their personalities. And both are involved in both beautiful and ugly situations. The simplest way to describe how much I like the story is that I was reading three other books at the same time when I started it, but was only reading this one by the time I finished. It grabbed me so strongly that I let the others go until I finished this story. This is the second book I have read by this author. And whil [...]

I thought this was weird. I fully didn't understand what was happening at times. This story did have potential. It started out slow then it went by really fast. I didn't believe the love between the Jason and Haley. It seem all to insta-love but not believable. The end was dull. It just seemed to be put together really fast then the end was just the end. I guess this one wasn't for me.

Time Taken To Read - 3 hoursBlurb From Jason, a tormented soul and small town, womanizing gangster, double crosses his only friend and does a runner with a suitcase full of drug money, disappearing into the heart of the gorgeous Scottish highlands to lay low in a secluded cottage and start a new life.On his second day of hiding out Jason discovers the mysterious body of a young and hauntingly beautiful woman lying unconscious at the bottom of a nearby hill. The woman though has no memory of who [...]

I received a copy of Ugly Beautiful from the author in exchange for an honest review.Ugly Beautiful is a novella length story of about 130 pages. It is a horror story about a young man named Jason whose father is a crime boss. Jason himself is a conflicted gangster who makes a living working in his fathers organization and lives a pretty posh life because of it. With a beautiful wife and a baby on the way, he seems to have it all until he stumbles upon a secret that shatters his picture perfect [...]

The tale is a great story. Full of graphic descriptions that are so graphic, it will sate any personal psychological morbid need a Reader has to quench their thirst of the dense macabre. Read my full review at buttonholed

Disturbing ReadThis was a dark disturbing book. Justin is a criminal and he and his friend are sent out to blow away the completion. When he gets home early a horrible surprise awaits him. As he runs to his uncles cabin in the Scottish Highlands, he meets someone who changes what he is. I really enjoyed the book. The author is great. The only reason for 4 stars is the absolutely weird ending. Don't let that hinder your ready of this great book. Highly recommend.

SurprisingI thought it was really good. I chose the book because of its cover. It took me less than two days to read because I couldn't put it down. I hated the end because it left me wanting more. When or where is the next book because I can't wait to read it. I will be looking and I will be following this author. Loved it.

The story was okay, but the mistakes ruined it for me. I know it's difficult for self-published authors on a low budget, editing their own work and a few errors can slip through the net. There were a lot of errors though. It was nothing to do with the Scottish dialect.

I don't remember how this book got onto my TBR but I'm sorry it did. I had great difficulty getting past the many many misspelled words; the run-on sentences; the repeated words; the phrases used again and again even in the same sentence; and the instances where 40 words were used to describe something that required 10. All these glaring errors just kept yanking me out of the story which was pretty good though poorly executed. The plot was basically a good one but there was no continuity. The st [...]

Synopsis: "'A tragic tale of a doomed romance like no other.'Jason is a tormented soul and small town, womanizing gangster. Fed up with his unfulfilled life he double crosses his only friend and does a runner with a suitcase full of drug money, disappearing into the heart of the gorgeous Scottish highlands to lay low in a secluded cottage before starting a fresh. On his second day of hiding Jason discovers the mysterious body of a young and hauntingly beautiful woman lying unconscious at the bott [...]

I enjoyed this book. The main character Jason was an evil gangster. A man you love to hate because he does things to deserve it, until he runs from home and comes across "Haley". This is where the book takes a most exciting and horrific turn. From there it is just a page turning read. I am disappointed a little with the ending. The story is good but I was left without the feeling of finality that I usually get. I felt the author could have gone another chapter or two to "finish" things a bit bet [...]

Short read. TONS of grammatical errors. Some interesting twists but ended up being predictable. Do not recommend for anyone who has difficulty with the level of violence and gore the author chose to write about.
