I would never normally pick this book up. however, I was at the beach and needed a new book and the rest of the books on the exchange shelf were in German or Thai so I figured why not. I actually really enjoyed the book it is my first Iraq/Afghan/military war book but it was done really well. At times it was a little too much war stuff for me but I feel the author did a great job keeping the graffic to a minimum in order to keep the story rich. It also helps that the author is a real army intell [...]

A good entertaining story. Slightly far fetched at times and on a couple of occasions reality was stretched a bit too far which made certain scenarios unbelievable and spoilt it a bit. However, on the whole it was a decent book full of action and suspense as you would expect from Chris Ryan. I had not read a Ryan book for a while but won't leave it as long next time.

Tja.

Meh, I am sure Chris Ryan was a bored writing this book as I was reading it. Predictable, uninspiring, at times unbelievable but in a bad way. Plenty of better military action fiction novels out there to read.

SameGood guy has tragic fate. Bad guy isn't who it seems at first. Much shooting. Good guy kills bad guy ( & others ) then lumps off into tragic but moderately happy sunset.

Shady spy agencies, a CIA operative gone rogue, a SAS soldier out of the game for two years, a sister split apart from her brother by circumstances and an imminent terrorist attack - these are the basic elements that form the plot of this book. The best way to describe this book would be to compare it to an excellent action movie - it's fast paced, exciting, detailed and you can barely put it down. At 343 pages (2008 Century PB issue) it's the average length for a book these days but the drama an [...]

Firefight contains explosive action sequences and an exciting, fast-paced narrative. The plot is filled with surprises, well developed characters, and a number of subjects relating to the current war on terror. The author did a good job at including interesting descriptions of weapons, tactics, and events in the story. Chris Ryan is definitely an author I plan to read more of after reading this excellent novel.

If you're a fan of reading espionage thrillers and books you just cannot put down then grab this one and start reading - NOW!! Seriously, I had to take only a few breaks as I didn't want to miss a thing and I know it is a book and not a TV Show or Film, but this read was a fantastic, brilliant, attention seeking thrill ride that left me sitting on the edge. Now I have finished and know that Chris Ryan writes from experience, the regiment is one scary place to be.

well paced action thriller, double crosses and very realistic. The author is a former SAS member. A lot of dead bodies but not dwelling on the gore. It's part of the plot for a change.I read it in one day. This is my first time with this author and I will probably read more of his books. If you like this genre, you'll probably like this book.

I really like Chris Ryan's style and the way his books unfold. Firefight was as the Brit's say "brilliant". Good compelling story, characters developed so you care about them, with twists and turns that you don't see coming. Throw in some action, sex, revenge, and intrigue in a quick read and you've got a "good read"!

I absolutely loved this book. I only read my first Chris Ryan book a few months ago and have to admit I'm hooked. I love a reading books which keep me totally absorbed and turning the pages to the end. This didn't disappoint.

This book was brilliant, struggled to put it down. Very good story and an interesting perspective at the start with the view from the enemy side. Some of the torture scenes on the sister of the man they were trying to catch where very gruesome.

Couldn't finish. Stiff, wooden prose. Unimaginative action scenes. Never a missed cliché. Even a small technical error related to a weapon, which given Mr. Ryan's background is very surprising. This may be a one-off and the rest of his stuff is brilliant, but I'm not encouraged.

A formulaic tale of a down-on-his-luck former SAS soldier who is all that stands between the bad guys and an atrocity. Plenty of action, bodies and twists in the plot. Oh, and don't trust those in authority

I absolutely loved this book, it was fantasticly amazing and I can't wait to read more of Chris Ryans work.

FantasticThey just keep getting better! Another amazing book that kept the pages turning, couldnt put it down excellent from start to finish.

What a book this was it was very good when all wills anger was used as a weapon against Ahmed. If you like espionage and electrifying thrillers this is the book for you

Fairly predictable story, fast read (4hours). My favorite part was all the references to London having just been there on Holiday.

There's a lot of action in this story. It all seems very plausible too. No cliched ending either. A good book.

One of th better SAS books I have read and certainly Ryans best. Tried others but didnt live up to this one. Decent enough.

This was a first rate read with plenty of twists and turns; in the end I could not put it down until I finished it.
