Read in The Stephen Crane Megapack: 94 Classic Works by the Author of The Red Badge of Courage.A depressing short story. A young man finds a free meal and is looking for a cheap place to sleep. An older, slightly crazy, man comes along and tells him of a place to stay. The place is a dump, but cheap, and the young man sees some unsettling sights during his night there. The next day, the young man is left realizing his future as an outcast of society.

Read so far:The monster --An experiment in misery --A mystery of heroism --An episode of war --The upturned face --2The open boat --The pace of youth --The bride comes to yellow sky --The blue hotel --2

"The Monster" is one of my favorite short stories of all time. This has some good stuff, and the book is small and portable.
